our mission

The CSETS Department is committed to providing the necessary resources for NFN members to be successful in today’s highly competitive and constantly-changing job market. As well as providing the required support for those hoping to go one step further and step into a career after post-secondary education.

If you’d like to learn more about what CSETS has to offer, feel free to visit the CSETS website!

Employment Services

Snaw-naw-as is a member Nation of the Coast Salish Employment Training Society (CSETS), which receives funding through Service Canada. Our department coordinator, employed through Nanoose First Nation, provides band members opportunities to improve on areas of employment readiness through a community Job Club by arranging services such as:

  • Resume and cover letter building

  • Mock interviews

  • Employment preparedness assessments

In addition to resume building and mock interviews, certain employment training can also be provided (on-request) which includes, but may not be limited to:

  • First Aid Certificate Training

  • Food Safe Certificate Training

  • Blade Runners

YOUR GOALS

It is important for us to assure that the required resources are provided for members to be successful, whether you’re looking for your first job, thinking about upgrading for post-secondary (high school diploma), or have been in your career for over a decade. We want to help you take the right steps towards a prosperous future.

Throughout each quarter, we are consistently influencing lives, assessing the needs of the community, and removing barriers to education such as:

  • Transportation

  • Child-minding

  • Schedule conflicts

  • Motivational issues

If any of the above are preventing you from achieving your academic goals, please feel free to contact Rachel Watts, our CSETS adviser, to see how we can help set you on the right track to a brighter future.

Community Abe program

As a partner nation of VIU, Nanoose is able to provide an Adult Basic Education program in the community, adapted to fit the individual needs of its participants. The program runs from September to April and is hosted at Youth Building. If you would like to register, please contact Rachel at the band office.

Important to note, registering for VIU is handled separately from this program, and those interested in signing up for post-secondary or the ABE program at VIU should consult with the NFN education department.

Partnerships

Our CSETS Coordinator is constantly advocating for meaningful employment in the community, which involves actively seeking out grants and funding through proposals to our partners and other branches of administration, ensuring continued support for the wide-range of employment training activities currently available to our members, as well as maximizing capital for future opportunities. Nanoose First Nation has partnerships with the Coast Salish Employment Training Society (CSETS), Nanoose Economic Development Corp (NEDC), Vancouver Island University (VIU), as well as the Education department, Health Center, and the Uy Sqwalwun Daycare.

Occasionally our Employment and Training adviser will collaborate with other departments to develop workshops tailored to fit the needs of community members, as assessed regularly throughout the year. Keep a look out for these events, as they may be posted on the Community Calendar, billboards throughout the community, newsletters, and the NFN Facebook Page.
